Population genomics of climate adaptation in Phaeocryptopus gaeumannii

Joey is a postdoctoral fellow in the Département des sciences du bois et de la forêt at Université Laval. He is a mycologist with a forestry background and a passion for fungi. His overall research explores fungal biodiversity and ecological function of the tree microbiome to improve understanding and practices in natural and managed forests in Canada. His work with the CoAdapTree project involves a genomic approach to elucidate the biology of Phaeocryptopus gaeumannii, the causal agent of Swiss needle cast in Douglas-fir. These results will provide insight into how this pathogen will respond to a changing climate and resolve basic questions about P. gaeumannii, such as its mating system and possible cryptic speciation. Joey enjoys walking in forests and collecting fungi with his incorrigible German Shorthaired Pointer, Birdie.
